COOL OUT SUN

Melbourne’s Afro Hip Hop veterans Cool Out Sun is spearheaded by Nfa Jones and Sensible J, joined by a rotating roster of guests.

N'fa Jones is a Australian / Sierra-Leonean artist who played a formative role in the evolution of Hip Hop in Australia with his ARIA award winning band 1200 Techniques, breaking onto the scene in 2000. The band grew from Melbourne’s underground before finding mainstream success and becoming the first urban group to ever win an ARIA. Since then N'fa has continued recording and touring while working with youth and community groups and in education.

Sensible J is an Australian / South African drummer and producer who's been in the local music scene since the early 2000's when his crew Run For Your Life won the Hilltop Hoods Initiative Grant. He is best known for his collaborations with REMI, for whom he produced three albums winning an Australian Music Prize and worldwide acclaim, and Sampa The Great for whom he co-produced and mixed the award winning album Birds And The Bee9.

No stranger to the UK shores both N’fa and Sensible J have been collaborating for many years, with UK artists including Children Of Zeus,
TY (on his last album prior to his untimely passing), Roots Manuva, Rodney P, DJ Simbad, DJ Vadim, DBridge, Jimmy Napes & more.

Most recently, Sensible J produced VV Browns critically acclaimed album “Am I British Yet?”, released in October 2023, receiving a bunch of airplay on BBC, and stations like NTS, Soho Radio, and more.

Cool Out Sun creates music bridging the traditions of classic Hip Hop with the traditions of Afrobeat, Afro soul & roots music blending West African language and culture with modern sonics that jump out the speakers. Beats are built on the MPC & refined with all live instrumentation & vocals recorded in their lofi indie label, House of Beige studio in the middle of nowhere.

The group's explosive live show has them performing consistently, and their music has been getting a lot of Australian airplay as well as spins across the US, EU and the UK radio.

Cool Out Sun songs go deep into social subjects and storytelling with historical and cultural messaging hidden in catchy hooks and heavy grooves. This collection of songs continues this theme while leaning into the more vibrant side of what Cool Out Sun cooked up in the studio in the creation of this album, ‘A LION IS A LION.
